Alexandra Gutu, cello, a native of Timisoara, Romania, started playing the cello at the age of 9. Her first important solo concert was at the age of 12, playing the Handel Double Concerto with now prestigious American cellist Laufer Wolfgang. Guţu is a graduate of the Bucharest Conservatory in Romania where she studied with Serafim Antropov. Later she attended the Paris Conservatory where she studied with Joseph Calvet and Andre Navarra, and then the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg where she worked with Antonio Janigro. She received many prizes at prestigious competitions such as Pablo Casals, Budapesta 1973, Francesco Serato, Bologna 1973, Gaspar Cassado , Florence 1974, P. I. Ceaikovsky, Moscova 1974, Primavara la Praga, 1976, Valentino Bucch, Roma 1983. She is in constant demand as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, Asia, South and North America. Her recordings are published by Electrecord in Romania, and Claves in Switerland. Alexandra Guţu was the principal cellist of the „Banatul Philharmonic in Timisoara and later became the official soloist of the Philharmonic. She participated in numerous chamber groups such as the duo with pianist Dragos Mihailescu, trio Palladio in Italy, Timisoara String Quartet and in the cellists quartet Cellissimo. In parallel şi performs as a soloist in San Carlo Theater, Napoli and Olimpic Theater in Vincenza, Italia. On October 3, 2004, she participated in a prestigious concert in Bangkok, Thailand, where she performed the Dvorak concerto in front of the Thai Queen and 1700 spectators.
