Mihailescu Duo, with pianists
Manuela Iana–Mihailescu and Dragoş Mihailescu owns a complex repertoire
dedicated to the four hands piano or two pianos ensemble, obtaining
eulogistic chronicles in the specialty media in Romania and Germany.
Their repertoire contains the creations of J. S. Bach, W. A. Mozart
(all Work for Piano four hands and two pianos), Fr. Schubert, Felix
Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Fr. Chopin, Fr. Liszt, R. Schumann, J. Brahms,
A. Dvorak, Ed. Grieg, G. Faure, Cl. Debussy, E. Satie, M. Ravel, D.
Milhaud, Fr. Poulenc, C. Silvestri, S. Rachmaninoff, B. Bartok, G.
Kurtag, R. Georgescu, G. Enescu and D. Lipatti. The duo has recently
performed in concert halls in Germany, Spain, Sweden, France and
Austria. In 1998 they recorded a CD with songs for the four hands piano
by Schubert and Brahms for the Hungarian Videoton label and in 2006, a
CD with Dances by Schumann, Brahms, Dvorak, Grieg and Silvestri (Show
Factory, Romania, 2006).
I returned to the secular cupola of
the Athenaeum in order to listen, on Sunday, February 15, 2004, to the
excellent piano duo Manuela şi Dragos Mihailescu
,
to a dense and captivating program, including opuses for two pianos by
Debussy, Rachmaninoff and Brahms, interpreted with a special sense of
proportions, construction and expressive colors, thus perfectly
synchronizing the two soloists from Timisoara not only from the
perspective of rhythmical precision, but also thematically, making
their recital become a real delight.
