Sorin Petrescu, piano, is a graduate of the Ion Vidu School of Music in his native town of Timisoara, Romania. Later he graduated the Ciprian Porumbescu Music Conservatory in Bucharest. In 1982, Mr. Petrescu joined the Banatul Philharmonic in Timisoara as the orchestra pianist. He is an avid chamber musician and a promoter of contemporary music. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious Astra Magazine Award from Brasov, Romania. He is also the silver price winner at the Mazara International Piano Competition in Mazara, Italy. Sorin Petrescu performed in numerous festivals, including the 1988 and 1991 George Enescu Festival, Varna International Festival in Bulgaria, and the New Music Festivals Musicorama in Hong Kong and Huddersfield Great Britain. Mr. Petrescu appeared as a soloist in China, Poland, Hungary, Russia, France, Switzerland and Taiwan. He has recorded for the Romanian TV and Radio stations as well as the Electrecord and VTCD Labels.
